Research Into Equiptment

I have decided to make my final posters on Adobe Illustrator. The reason for this is because I have recently had tutorials on the basics of how to produce images. In Illustrator, the technique I will use is to get the image I want to use of the internet and then using it to trace over in Illustrator. I will use the pen tool to make the lines and curves and the object tool to make shapes. The materials I will need to produce the work is a Mac and the Adobe Illustrator software.

Successful Poster campaigns

Media_httpobeygiantco_nemjp

This is one of the most famous poster campaigns and most successful. In 2008, this poster was created by Shepard Fairey for the presidential election. The design of the poster was created in one day where Shepard Fairey then immediatly sold 350 in a street. The poster them became more recognised where it was then widely distributed. The poster was then approved by the official Obama Campiagn making it one of the successful symbols in Obama’s campaign message.

Another successful poster campaign was Batman Arkham City the video game. These posters were advirtised everywhere months before the game was released to show the audeince a glimpse of the characters. These posters are very basic as they feature no text only a single character on a plain white background, This was used to put all the attention on the character. I remember when I saw the first campiagn poster of Batman in black and white showing the bright red blood which I knew straight away was the new relase game and it made me very excited to see the campiagns that followed.

Qualitative and Quantitative Research

In my questionnaire, I put Qualatative and Quantitative questions for people to answer as it would help me undertsnad more about what to do for my campaign.

My first qualitataive question I put was “What was the last campaign poster you saw ?” People responded with various campigns they recently saw which inlcuded Piracy, Animal abuse, Health campaigns such as cancer and air ambulances, and drugs. I followed the question on to say “In what way did it effect you ?” where people would respond with a quantitative answer.

The next set of questions are mainly qualitative so I produced Pie Charts to show the results :

Marketing Basics

Definitinon of Marketing

‘Marketing consists of the strategies and tactics used to identify, create and maintain satisfying relationships with customers that result in value for both the customer and the marketer.’

http://www.knowthis.com/principles-of-marketing-tutorials/what-is-marketing/d…

In order to be successful in marketing businesses must identify what customers will they serve and how best can they be served or in marketing speak: what is the target market and what is the value proposition?

Target Market refers not just to the target audience but also to the type of market you are attempting to release the product into (competition, similiar products, prices etc.) To establish this you must research. (see below)

The value proposition is the set of benefits or values a company promises to deliver to consumers to satisfy their needs – or, to put it simpler terms, the reasons why consumers should buy the product or service. Establishing the value proposition is tied closely to the brand identity of the company and how they differentiate and position themselves relative to their competition.

Designing your research

The stages of Market Research are as follows:

1. Identify the purpose of the research.
What are you attempting to get from the research? Is it an explanation as to why certain consumer behaviour is occurring? Is it to enable accurate predictions for the future? Is it to monitor current activity and record it accurately? To discover new needs and wants?

2. Design the research
This is far more than just knocking out a questionnaire or an online survey. First you have to ensure that research you are undertaking is valid – that the research really does measure what is it supposed to measure.
Then the research must be reliable – so is the data collected honest, is it a fair recflection of the rest of the chosen group that are being studied.
Then there’s different types of research that can be carried out as depending on the research objective you might need quantitative research or qualitative research. Quantitative research is pursuit of empirical evidence and data using in numerical form.

Qualitative research is finding out the stories behind the facts and figures, trying to understand opinion and motivation of consumers – just what is it about attacking pigs with beaked kamikaze-pilots that is so appealing.

3. Data Collection
The type of data needed has been identified for the purpose of the research, now its about getting the information. This is can be done with collection of original information and data – which is primary research. It can be the gathering and summary of existing research and data – which is secondary research. Typically – for a thorough research project – a combination of primary and secondary is used.

4. Evaluate and analyse the data
Evaluating requires a looking at the raw data and ‘cleansing’ the data in terms of incomplete and unrepresentative responses that might have an affect on the overall outcome.
Analysis can take two forms;
Descriptive analysis – this is a summary of the findings, a description on the data. This could involve pie charts and tables for quantitative research and categorisation of consumers for qualitative.
Inferential analysis – using the data to make inferences, predictions and judgments on the area research.

5. Communicate the results – the final stage is to present your research making clear the purpose of the research, the design, the finding and the conclusions made from it.

British Film and TV Homework

In what wasy do you support Britsh Film and TV ?

What I do to support the Film and TV industry is I buy DVD’s from online shops including Play.com, eBay and amazon. I also go out and Buy them from various shops. I sometimes go to the cineam with my family and friends whne a newly released film comes out that appeals to me. I enjoy the cinema because its a much better atmosphere. I also like to but things related to the films or teleivesion programmes I watch such as video games, magazines and posters.

What do you do that could be negative for British film and TV ?

Sometimes after I have watched a new film at the cinema or watched a new televison seires on the televison. I go online and watche them again for free. I do this because I dont want to wait a long time for the film to be released on DVD. Sometimes, I also borrow DVD’s from friends which thaey have but I dont want to buy where I can then borrow their copy and return it after I have watched it.

What message could you send out to tell people that it is important to support the British film and TV?

What would be effective to inform a much wider range of people about how important the Film and TV indusrty is to set up different campaigns where it talks about the what effect it has on the insustry and how important is it to contribute. What would make me support British film and TV is to make better deals more people my age. As well as student discounts, what I think would be very successful would be to have free screenings for students who do media as a subject so that it gives them access to watch new films. This may also encourage new students to take media in which they will learn about the effect of piracy and what its has on the viewer and the industry.

Unit 01: AO6 Explain legal and ethical constraints and the role of regulatory bodies

History of PEGI

Pegi (Pan European Game Information) is a European video games rating system. Pegi informs parents to make informed decisions on buying video games. The Pegi rating is shown on the game boxes showing the age rating in the box. Pegi became in use in April 2003 when it was officially launched replacing a range of other age rating systems used throughout Europe.

The Pegi system is supported by major console manufactures such as Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo as well as the publishers and developers of the games. The games age rating system wasdeveloped by ISFE (Interactive Software Federation of Europe)

Rating System:

The Pegi rating system is an easy to read graphic which is placed boldly on the video game box. Each Graphic shows an age catergory rating.

Pegi 3+.gif Ages 3 and up

Titles rated 3+ are suitable for children over the age 3 and to all gamers. A game with this age rating would usually feature very mild cartoon slapstick violence we is age appropriated for young children.

BBFC Video Game Classification

The role that the BBFC has in the video game rating system is that they calssify games with an R18 rating featuring stong pornography. The BBFC will also classify and examine on certain linear content in video games that does not contribute to the narrative structure of the game. Examples of linear content include TV material for the GTA seires which does not contribute to the narrative drive of the game. The BBFC will continue to classify all non-game linear content on a game disc, such as trailers and featurettes.

Self Regulatory Means:

Self regulatory means that PEGI who are now legally binded have to sell the game under strict terms to the customers, Customers must prove their age other wise the game wont be sold to them. This new system means if whoever sells a game rated a with an age restriction to someone under that age may face prosecution or jail. Before PEGI was legally binded, The British Board of Film Classification rated the games and the ages were not official meaning, a customer under the age restriction could still purchase the game without the distributors facing any trouble. PEGI now also gives additional ratings on additional information about the games such as violent content, bad language, and explicit sexual content.

Game banned in the UK

A game that was banned in the UK was Manhunt 2. The game was rejected for its unrelating focus on stalking and brutal slaying said the British Board Of Classification as well as unremitting bleackness and callousness of tone which thoughout the game from the start encourages savage like killing. The game connot be sold anywhere in the UK. The reason Manhunt 2 was banned was because it was suspended by Take Two publishers due to the ratings in the UK and Italy as it was rated AO (AdultsOnly). Manhunt 2

Arguments for and against videogame violence

I believe that some video games feature lots of brutal violence, bad language and explicit sexual content. But PEGI’s rating sytems on the game clearly identify what will feature in the game giving the consumers and parents detailed information about the game. Beacuse of this I think games should feature these themes as people are warned about it and then the consumers or parents can make the desision to purchase the game. Even if video games features violent content, there is no reason for the player to display agressive thoughts in the real world. If that was the case, a person watching a violent film featuring the same sort of content as a video game might go out and indulge themselves into violent crimes. But I belive that people who play violent video games tend to be more aggressive. I personally play lots of violent video games such as the Call Of Duty seires and games by Rockstar such as the GTA seires and Red Dead Redemption and during and after playing the game, I feel no violent emotions or have any violent urges. When playing the games, I play them how they should be played and to have fun.
